I am a HAPPY Childless Cat Lady

J.D. Vance? Who the hell is he to be saying I'm "miserable". I wrote this letter to Mr. Vance after viewing If anyone knows how to get this letter to him personally please do.

Dear Mr. Vance,

I have never met you, and you probably haven’t met me, but I am one of those “childless cat ladies” to whom you unkindly and mockingly refer. You nastily called me “miserable” and declared that I “want to make the rest of the country miserable.”

Mr. Vance, You, in fact, do not know me. So let me tell you who I am.

My husband and I, married for 43 years, made a conscious decision to not have children back in 1981 when we got married. That choice has never left either of us feeling “miserable”. In fact, we think it was an unselfish decision we made. Why would we have children that we didn’t feel we could wholeheartedly commit to? In 43 years neither of us has felt “miserable” because of the choice we made. Nor, has that choice led us to “want to make the rest of the country miserable.” We are surrounded by people whom we love and make our lives full, definitely not “miserable”.

Now, let’s talk about cats. Because I am a professional “cat lady”, who just happens to be childless. What does that mean? It means that for the past 21 years (after a successful career in healthcare information technology) I have dedicated myself to my community and many other communities, helping people and the felines in their lives Now, don’t start assuming that all the people I deal with, or help are also “childless cat ladies”. In fact, I’d speculate that about half the people I help are not cat lovers. They may be cat likers, tolerators or even haters. Because, you see, nothing brings me more joy than ensuring a cat has a safe place to live and that the people surrounding that cat are comfortable too. It may mean helping Debbie, a senior lady save her beloved cat’s life from a disease that is 100% fatal unless a difficult and expensive treatment is given. Debbie is on a very fixed income and is suffering from painful cancer that is requiring extensive surgery, chemo and radiation. She cannot afford the treatment so I am funding it.

It may also mean helping John, a gentleman attempting to discourage the community cats from coming into his yard. He loves birds and the cats are disturbing the birds. He doesn’t like cats, but doesn’t wish them any ill will. I embrace each of these people the same. I help them find solutions. I am not “miserable” towards John just because he doesn’t like cats. I don’t judge or not offer to help John. He is a kind human being that just doesn’t have the greatest fondness for cats. So what? Why would I want to make him “miserable”?

I work endlessly, compassionately and joyfully in my life’s mission. I feel so very blessed to know that I am helping people and animals every single day of my life. I am saving lives – cats and, yes, humans, too. It is my soul job. I very clearly know why I was put on this earth for however long I am granted the privilege of being here. I don’t make people “miserable”; I bring them happiness, relief, resolutions. I am very clearly not "miserable". I work very hard every day to live up to what my name implies.

I realize these are just words. If you want to really see some badass, compassionate cat ladies (and men) in action then spend 90 minutes watching the award-winning documentary, The Fire Cats - Save Something Small. Some of the work I do helping cats and people is chronicled in this film. I dare you to call me “miserable” and wanting to “make the rest of the country miserable too” after viewing this film.

Sincerely,
Joy Smith

PS: Just a few corrections in the facts of your statement:

Kamala Harris is NOT childless - she has two step-children
Pete Buttigieg is NOT childless - has two children (twins). Oh, in case you didn't notice, he's NOT a lady, he's a MAN.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is only 34 years old. She has plenty of time to have children.
